About the green signal lamp in the viewfinder

The green signal lamp indicates if the exposure is correct or not.
So, before releasing the shutter, depress the green signal button once (this button is also for the battery checker) to see if the green lamp is on in the viewfinder.
Change the aperture unless it is not on to get a correct exposure.
